Update 52 Patch Notes

Jerall Pass, a new three-sided PvP zone, Rimegale world events, higher housing limits, multi-target taunts for tanks and a big One Hand and Shield rework.

PTSv12.2.0PTS: October 26, 2026Live (PC): January 19, 2027Season Three: January 27, 2027

Still on the PTS

These changes are on the Public Test Server and can change before Update 52 goes live. Our Update 52 tank builds are written against these notes.

Highlights

  • Jerall Pass: a 40v40v40 open-world PvP zone north of Cyrodiil, fought over a single keep (Fanthor Keep) with its own currency, Jerall Marks. Permanent from the start of Season Three.
  • Rimegales: scheduled ice-storm world events in Eastmarch (on the half hour) and the Rift (on the hour). Build bonfires to beat the Frigid Chill debuff, then fight off Rime Giants.
  • Housing: much higher furnishing limits in every home, new house streaming tech, a new home and new furnishings.
  • Quality of life: an optional minimap, more companion customization, the Armory now remembers scribed scripts, guild reordering, and dungeon finder runs stay open 5 minutes after completion, up from 2.

What it means for builds

  • Unstoppable Brute now taunts up to 6 enemies, so it replaces Inner Rage as the trash taunt in our Update 52 tank builds. Boss setups keep Goading Throw (Warden keeps Inner Rage).
  • Inner Beast no longer taunts; it pulls up to 6 enemies instead, which makes it a flex pick rather than a taunt.
  • Glacial Colossus goes back to 175 Ultimate (the Update 51 cost cut is reverted).

See the Update 52 tank, healer and damage dealer builds for how each class plays on this update.

Tanking changes

The biggest change for tanks in years: ZOS is dropping the old rule that nothing taunts more than one enemy, and reworking One Hand and Shield, Heavy Armor and some sets so tank builds have more than one path to success.

Taunts and pulls

  • Unstoppable and its morphs, Goading Smash and Goading Vault now taunt up to 6 enemies that haven't been taunted recently.
  • Tormentor now taunts every enemy it damages that hasn't been taunted recently, not just the first one hit.
  • Inner Beast no longer taunts. It pulls up to 6 enemies to you instead.

One Hand and Shield

  • Puncture and Low Slash now scale off Weapon or Spell Damage plus your Physical or Spell Resistance. Shield Charge, Power Bash and Shield Throw's non-class script damage scale off resistance plus Magicka or Stamina.
  • Defensive Posture now scales off 15% of your Physical plus Spell Resistance instead of 30% of Max Health, limited to 50% of Max Health. Defensive Stance now grants its block mitigation properly (it was bugged).
  • Low Slash and Heroic Slash hit a 5 meter cone in front of you and no longer need a target; scaling up about 25%. Deep Slash stays targeted and adds a 15 second bleed. Heroic Slash now heals you for 10.33% of Max Health and always grants Minor Heroism.
  • Shield Charge auto-blocks for 0.6 seconds, up from 0.5. Invasion gains up to 50% more damage as well as stun duration (max stun 4.5 seconds, down from 6).
  • Reverberating Bash now stuns after 0.7 seconds and applies Major Maim for 15 seconds. Crowd control immune targets take the damage straight away.
  • Power Slam: its passive is renamed Focus, stores up to 5 charges and cuts the next Power Slam's cost by 75%, up from 50%.
  • Shield Discipline costs 100 Ultimate, down from 135, and lasts 10 seconds, up from 8.
  • Deadly Bash (passive) now increases your damage done to monsters based on Armor plus Max Health divided by 4,500, but only while your defensive stats outweigh your offensive ones. A tank with 35,000 Health and about 31,000 / 32,500 resistances gets around 21%.

Heavy Armor and Champion Points

  • Juggernaut now also gives the same damage-to-monsters bonus as Deadly Bash, under the same defensive-stats rule.
  • Cutting Defense (Warfare) now also gives half of that bonus.

Class changes

Dragonknight

Necromancer

  • Frozen Colossus and its morphs: the Update 51 changes are reverted (back to 175 Ultimate, with the damage restored). They now deal 75% bonus damage to monsters already affected by Major Vulnerability.
  • Pestilent Colossus deals 10% bonus damage at base, rising 10% per hit, as a single ability instance.

Sorcerer

  • Overload and its morphs turn themselves off if you Light or Heavy Attack below their cost, and no longer disable Hasty Retreat and Hawk Eye.
  • Conservation of Energy no longer dismounts you.

Templar

  • Balanced Warrior is fixed and gives 75 Weapon and Spell Damage per Templar ability slotted.
  • Enduring Rays is reworked: instead of longer damage-over-time durations, it increases your Armor by 6,600 while a Templar Ultimate is active, and rank 2 also raises your Armor cap by 6,600.
  • Solar Barrage becomes a toggle (ticks every 3 seconds for 405 Magicka, 65% more damage per tick). Sun Fire lasts 30 seconds and its Major Savagery 1 minute. Vampire's Bane lasts 45 seconds (60 against monsters).
  • Backlash and its morphs last 12 seconds (30 against monsters) and hit every 6 seconds as one damage instance. Prism now triggers from any Templar skill.

Nightblade

  • Grim Focus skill styles now colour the passive glow to match.

Item sets and traits

Traits

  • Decisive 68% (up from 55%), Precise 7.4% (up from 7.2%), Nirnhoned weapons 20% (up from 15%), Infused armor 40% (up from 25%), Impenetrable 165 (up from 127).
  • Charged drops to 225%, down from 235%.

Tank-relevant sets

  • Gaze of Sithis now also raises your Armor cap by 13,200 (it doesn't grant that Armor, it lets you go past the usual 33,000 cap).
  • Glorious Defender is reworked: bash damage builds stacks, and 5 stacks give a Blade Turn charge that deflects the next direct attack within 30 seconds. Its 4-piece is now Armor.
  • Void Bash (Perfected) now gives Armor instead of Max Health, and Explosive Rebuke's 2 to 4-piece lines are now resistances and Armor.
  • Knight-errant's Mail 3 and 4-piece are now Armor, and its keystone adds up to 1,268 damage to One Hand and Shield abilities. Gallant Charge extends Shield Charge's block to 1 second.
  • Dov-rha Sabatons are reworked: faster sprinting, a damage shield and Armor stacks while sprinting, and a shockwave when you stop.
  • Leeching Plate, Song of Lamae (0.5 second cooldown, up to 16.6% more damage), Crimson Twilight and others are now properly flagged as proc sets.

Other sets

  • Many arena sets have new stat lines that match their keystone, and Para Bellum and Hunt Leader are reworked.
  • Twice-Born Star remembers its Mundus, so it can be active on one bar and inactive on the other.
  • Lefthander's Aegis Belt now replaces Roll Dodge with its own ability, which ignores fatigue cost.

PvP

  • You no longer need to home a campaign to earn leaderboard and alliance rewards; any campaign counts (Imperial City, Jerall Pass or Cyrodiil). Homing only matters for Emperor.
  • The next Veterancy season starts January 19 with northern-themed motifs, ability styles and titles, plus Nowhere Keys on the track.
  • The Vengeance campaign resets when the season starts.
