Subclass Tank
Winter's Embrace, Siphoning and Grave Lord: group Major Resolve, effortless sustain and Glacial Colossus Major Vulnerability on almost any class.
Good to know
Overview
Subclassing lets you swap up to two of your three class skill lines for lines from other classes. This build takes the most useful tank line from three classes. Warden's Winter's Embrace gives the group Major Resolve through Expansive Frost Cloak. Nightblade's Siphoning gives sustain through Siphoning Attacks. Necromancer's Grave Lord brings Glacial Colossus and Unnerving Boneyard, the strongest Major Vulnerability and Breach package in the game.
You must keep at least one of your own class lines. A Warden, Nightblade or Necromancer can run this exact trio by keeping their own line and borrowing the other two. Every other class keeps its best tank line in place of the one that fits worst (see Choosing your lines below).
Strengths
- Works on almost any class, so you can tank on your favourite character.
- Brings the two biggest tank-only group effects: Major Resolve and Major Vulnerability.
- Effortless sustain from Siphoning, with Baron Zaudrus turning status effects into Ultimate.
Weaknesses
- Subclassing turns off Class Mastery entirely.
- Borrowed skill lines have to be levelled from scratch.
- Less burst self-protection than a pure Arcanist or Necromancer.

How to play
- 1Taunt the boss with Pierce Armor and keep Expansive Frost Cloak up for the group at all times.
- 2Run Siphoning Attacks whenever resources dip, and weave Light Attacks to get the most out of it.
- 3Keep Elemental Blockade and Unnerving Boneyard under the pack so status effects keep feeding Baron Zaudrus.
- 4Cast Glacial Colossus when the DPS burn, and call it out.
- 5Use Frozen Device and Charging Maneuver to stack trash quickly.
- 6Cast Resolving Vigor every 15 seconds or so to keep Powerful Assault on the group.
- 7Stay above 50% Health for Lucent Echoes. Block heavy attacks rather than dodging.
Choosing your lines
The rules: you can replace up to two of your three class skill lines with lines from other classes, and no more than one line from any other class. Lines come whole; you can't pick single skills. Subclassing disables Class Mastery.
Warden, Nightblade or Necromancer: keep your own line from the trio and borrow the other two. You run the build exactly as written.
Dragonknight: keep Ardent Flame for Heart of Flame sustain in place of Siphoning, and borrow Winter's Embrace and Grave Lord.
Arcanist: keep Soldier of Apocrypha in place of Siphoning. Its shields and taunt are worth more than the sustain.
Other common trio: Soldier of Apocrypha + Winter's Embrace + Earthen Heart is the other popular tank setup if your group already has a Necromancer for Major Vulnerability.
